Nobody cares and that's great

Here's an update on something that you couldn't care less about.

Nobody except Ingrid Olssen (thanks Ingrid!) cares whether we use the phrase Plain English or plain language or clear language. Even the lively plain language Yahoo group didn't offer a single opinion.

A Google search threw up:

  • 2,290,000 results for plain language
  • 4,750,000 results for plain English
  • 14,600,000 results for clear language
  • 684,000 for plain language legislation
  • 357,000 for clear language legislation
  • 2,170,000 for plain English legislation.

For me, the last result is highly relevant. Also, as a poet I like the way plain English trips off the tongue.

But the irony is not lost on me.
